A. Agent 5.0 and later have filtering on Message-ID.
But not in Agent 4.2 itself, sadly.

Filter Usenet Message by Message-ID
You can now filter Usenet messages by message-id. This can be a
great spam-fighting feature. Some posters may be clever in how
they mix up the subject and author fields of spam messages, but
often the messages they send have a common factor in each message-id.

B. There is another option -- use a local proxy to do the filtering.

There is an add-on NFilter which can add filtering to any newsreader,
including filtering on Message-ID.

The downloaded files can be 1 byte short which can cause modern versions
of Windows to report "not a valid Win32 executable".

(a) For NFilter version 1.20 (np-120.exe), rename np-120.exe to
np-120.zip, extract all the files, and run setup.exe.

(b) For NFilter version 1.21-b1 (NewsProxy.exe), use a hex editor
to append one nul byte to the end of the file NewsProxy.exe
to make it 245,760 bytes long.

As always, Ralph to the rescue. I may investigate that, or look to
see if Forte is accepting purchases of v8 these days or not.

They are not, as has been discussed here before. Someone posted a key
for was it version 6 or 7 a couple of months ago, you may use that,
Agent has become abandonware.

Really?

Really, really, as in were I to post my keys for V-4 and V-6 [I don't
think I have others but I'll root about to see] I wouldn't get Heavies
with dogs, guns, helicopters and heli-carriers dropping in on me to
gently hint that such is not polite behaviour?

I mean, is it *legal* to post keys, now?

Like, legally legal? Like, for example, I'm not going to get poked
into the tantie and fined "$60,500 for each offence" type of legal?

If it is really, really legally legal then perhaps we could have a
recurring monthly thread with keys for all eight major versions in a
message?

Y'know, just to help everyone?

Or would that be sort of taking the piss?

J.

N.B. Why the Fuck is it "60,500"? Why not just sixty thousand or 61 or
even 66? What is it with bloody politicians and their inability to
deal with round numbers of *anything*?
Wrong group to ask in?
